We are greeted by sunshine filtering thru the dense trees that surround the Triad United Methodist - Native American Church as we pack up to leave for our next Camp Site this morning. The Church really has a beautiful setting for it's building. We've made many friends here and we thank them for all they have done for us ... and for making us feel safe and 'at home' in their sanctuary. Four of the Walkers leave early in order to secure a camp site at our next destination. It's at Falls State Park just East of Durham, NC. And many of the State Parks are strict on a rule that says 'you must have a person come and secure each of the sites you want'. In other words.. I could not go ahead of the Walkers and get the 4 sites we would need... I actually had to have 4 of the Walkers with me in order to reserve the sites. So Marcy, Fawn, Jeannine, and Kateri left early to drive to the Park and 'reserve' the sites while I assisted with the loading of the Walker's luggage and other supplies at the Church. After the loading was complete... the Walkers go into Greensboro to the Guilford Native American Association where they were invited for breakfast... and I leave for the trip on I-40 East to meet up with the other 4 Walkers at the Falls State Park. The Walkers who went to the Breakfast at the Center tell us later at camp that they had the opportunity to spend time with the "Little Walkers" from the adjoining Day Care Center again. They sang songs for them.. and then the "Little Walkers" sang for the people on this Journey. Sounds like I missed out on the fun this morning... eh! After breakfast and the 'visit' with the "Little Walkers" was over... the Core Team covered about 50 miles... they walked Highway 158 from North Greensboro to Roxboro NC. By the time they arrived at Camp we had everything unloaded and ready for them to 'set up'. Shin Leaf - the section of the State Park where we are camped is not crowded. There is a very large lake that makes up the heart of this Park and there are various camping sites managed by the State Park that are scattered around the lake. The Shin Leaf site is what the Park calls "Primitive Camping"... the sites have no electric or water supplied to them. But the 4 Walkers who left early this morning were able to reserve 4 sites for us very near the main comfort station for Shin Leaf. So we have bathrooms, showers, and water within a short distance to all four sites. AND we have plenty of privacy ... quiet... trees.. flowers.. and the lake. We have a good talk around the Circle... as Rayma and Kateri fix spagetti dinner... and then we watch as the stars become visible to us in the darkness. Most of the Walkers are asleep by 10PM... it's been a long day... a long Journey... and a good night's sleep in such a beautiful setting is just what we needed. |
