This is a day off for the Walkers. And they scatter to the four directions of these mountains and this town during the day. Some checked out the 'local restaurants and shops'... while others attended the services at the Lutheran Church here in Cherokee. Everyone reported they had a good time. We held a Talking Circle after dinner tonight... and were joined by Alice and Jess Littlejohn and other friends whom we have met during our time in this Community. The Littlejohn's are a very interesting couple .. in their 70's.. and have many good stories about their lives and it has been a pleasure to stay at their campground. Grandsons help them out quite a bit with the mowing of the grass and taking care of the camp grounds and buildings. It is good to see younger people taking such good care of their Elders. There's a river that runs near the back of the Littlejohn Campground and it's been a source of enjoyment during the day time and a wonderful sound to sleep with during the night time. They also have a rooster at their nearby home.. and some of the Walkers are teasing that they're going over to the Rooster's home around midnight to 'talk to him'. Don't worry Littlejohns.... chicken and dumplins are not on the breakfast menu for the morning. eh!!!!! There was a brief afternoon thunderstorm and the crew scurried around to find tarps to make a roof for the camp kitchen. But the rain didn't dampen the spirits of the Walkers. There was joking and teasing and lots of fellowship under the canopy of tarps. Besides... Fred Short is cooking tonight and it smells delicious. The rain subsided by late afternoon and the wood dried out enough to build a fire for the Talking Circle. We're moving camp tomorrow morning and everyone will need to get a good night's rest for that task. We seem to accumalate a lot of 'stuff' when we are camped in the same place for more than one day. And we've been here since the 20th! So there's going to be a lot of packing and rearranging to do in order to get everything to fit back into the RV and the Relay Vehicles. We've really enjoyed our time at the Conferences and around this Camp with the People of Cherokee and surrounding Communities. Thanks again for all of the hospitality.. good food.. and especially for the prayers and good words you send with us as we continue this Walk for Wellbriety... toward the East... toward Washington D.C. |
